From Uganda to Sweden: Solomon’s journey as a volunteer
/When Solomon Manzi moved from Uganda to Sweden to pursue his master’s degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, he brought with him years of experience as a construction engineer. Alongside his studies, he also found a new way to put his engineering skills and experience to use by volunteering with Engineers Without Borders Sweden (EWB-SWE).
Solomon became involved through the EWB KTH local student group, where he joined a community of students and engineers committed to using their skills to contribute to sustainable development. He was also one of the mentees in the 2025/2026 Mentorship program together with our long-standing corporate partner Sandvik.

On September 17, Solomon represented EWB-SWE at Talent Day at Tekniska museet in Stockholm. Together with our friends at Sandvik, he met students at the beginning of their engineering journeys and shared insights from his career, his experience of studying in Sweden and his involvement in EWB-SWE.
— As a volunteer for EWB-SWE, it was a pleasure to spend a productive day collaborating with our largest corporate partner. I got to see firsthand how skilled Sandvik is at bringing people, ideas and innovation together, says Solomon.
Solomon’s journey is one example of how volunteering can bring together people with different backgrounds and experiences, creating opportunities to learn, share knowledge and make a difference.
Thank you, Solomon, for sharing your experience and contributing your time and expertise to EWB-SWE!
