The Ramboll Foundation is contributing DKK 500,000 to Engineers Without Borders Sweden and Build up Nepal’s recovery efforts in Rasuwa, Nepal, following the devastating glacial floods in August 2026.
On August 26, a glacial flood in the Himalayas caused widespread destruction in Nepal, damaging homes, infrastructure and essential community facilities. Families were left without safe shelter, while vital infrastructure and everyday services were disrupted.
Engineering expertise and local knowledge
Through a grant of DKK 500,000 to Engineers Without Borders Sweden (EWB-SWE) and our local partner Build Up Nepal, the Ramboll Foundation is helping affected communities rebuild and strengthen their resilience. The funding will support the construction of safe temporary homes for families who lost theirs in the floods, while also creating local employment opportunities, strengthening skills and contributing to long-term recovery.
The initiative combines engineering expertise with local knowledge and experience. Ramboll volunteers will contribute their professional skills in engineering, architecture and planning, working alongside EWB-SWE and Build Up Nepal to support the recovery efforts.
The effects of climate change
The disaster also highlights the growing challenges facing communities exposed to climate-related hazards. For people living in vulnerable areas, the effects of climate change are not a distant prospect but an increasingly immediate reality.
— For the people who live here, climate change is not something that will happen in the future. It is very real, says Björn Söderberg, co-founder of Build Up Nepal.
Support the project
These grants will help the project get started, but it does not end here. The project will still need support to continue helping affected families build up their communities.
